Meeting Neighbors
The photo to the left and on the About page was taken tonight by Roger Sizemore, also known as anselpixel on flickr and his website. Thank you Roger.
I met some neighbors Wednesday night. Figuratively and literally! The event was the first ever joint meet-up between bloggers and flickr folks.
At first it was the stand offish "Hello" and "Nice to meet you" type comments. From there the groups separated into their respective groups, with some of us bouncing between tables. Overall I think everyone had a good time.
Here are some of my highlights:
1) Meeting Greg, the man behind Scam City. There is actually a little history here. Greg found a picture of mine on flickr and asked if he could use it as a header on Scam City. Well I agreed. Now that picture is my most viewed! Here's a link to the photo he selected. Yeah, he cropped it a bit to better fit his needs, but that's totally cool!
2) Having bump, pull away from the "something that came up" to come out and play! He also has a blog.
3) Welcoming the newly weds back from their honeymoon! Mark and Sarah Richards! Whoo-hooo! Congrats!!!!
4) Getting a few tips from Lady Crumpet's Armoire and the hilarious Threadbared! Thank you ladies for the pointers. I can't wait to implement some ideas. :) (Check out Threadbared for the latest takes on retro fashion!)
5) The pleasure of sharing a ride with anselpixel! A literal neighbor and fun person to learn from. He put up with my 20 questions on the ride to the meet-up and allowed me to bounce ideas off of him on the ride home. Thanks Roger!
[edited to add:]
6) There was a slight rumble and I did get my big toe stepped on. There was this HUGE dude there, incredibly ripped and itching for a fight. Yeah, he was a Blogger. He thought us Flickr folks were ok, but he had to set the record straight on who's neighborhood we were in. As I limped away in tears and a shooting pain in my right big toe, I heard someone mumble the name Cyanbane. (Ok, so I barely met the guy. But hey the concept of an occassional joint meet-up is really cool.)
There were many more highlight that I'll just have to tell later. The main point is that lots of people from various backgrounds and interest gathered together tonight to meet, drink and have a good time.
I can't wait for the next one!
It was a treat to see so many of the faces behind the pictures. That Max guy is not nearly as forbidding in person as he is online, and it was fun to see the girls cleaned up to go into town. You can ask me anything you want, Slingerdoo, as can anyone else. Whatever I know I am happy to share.
